Most Holy Redeemer is a warm and deeply engaged Catholic community. But, considering many of the great Churches in our world, we are still young and we write the story of our Pilgrimage every day. As part of the Record of our development as a devout Catholic Parish and People of God, we have begun to memorialize key moments since our founding.
Like the rest of the world in 2020, our parish had to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic to ensure the safety of our parishioners, clergy, and volunteers. Once in-person mass attendance resumed in 2021, various measures were taken to minimize the risk of contamination and spreading this all-too-easy-to-catch virus that wreaked havoc on the world for over two years. This included taping off every other pew to ensure social distancing, taping markers on the aisle to ensure the 6-feet social distancing could be followed on the communion line, and seating designations depending on how many people were attending (i.e., singles, couples, or families of 3-5 people), hand-sanitizing stations at the foot of the altar, and closing off the daily mass chapel to parishioners. At the end of each Mass, a sanitization crew would disinfect the pews ready for the next mass. This, unfortunately, resulted in the varnish of the pews being slowly stripped away until they felt like sandpaper! The pews will be replaced in 2022, along with the carpet in the main body of the church. Despite these inconveniences, parishioners were delighted to have their worship space back after months of isolation, and with some modifications, we continued the story of faith, community, and commitment to the Eucharist and the message of God's love.
